write so that I can sleep tight

Never wondered how the goings on in the Writers Guild of America could affect people’s moods in Bangalore. The person affected is my better half. She is neither an artist nor a talk show anchor.

To get to the beginning of the story, we had a baby in October. It is a new world for the baby (little does he know in the eagerness of coming out, that over a period of time, he will just want to get back inside). Baby is King. He sleeps whenever he feels like and definitely not during nights. How many nights can my wife rely on me to stay up with the baby? Not many one could say. So who keeps her company? The internet in general and the late night jokes in particular. She likes them freshly served every evening. Life was good, the baby used to keep us awake, I managed to do a Houdini after a while to catch some sleep while my wife was busy reading about how David Letterman - Jay Leno - Craig Ferguson - Jon Stewart - Conan O'Brien were commenting about the presidential hopefuls and all that went on at 1600 Pennsylvania Av (One of the messages from the jokes, as we long suspected is that IQ is not important to run for the most powerful office in the world). Somewhere in the wee hours, she would sleep and I would take up the task of packing off the older one to school and rush to office. Good weather continued.

Then came the first week of November, I did notice some discontent (but men are not supposed to understand the subtle changes in weather, nevertheless). I thought something was wrong, maybe the baby was not feeding well or something. After a bit of sleuthing, I found the cause. The Writers Guild of America was on strike. I believe they had stopped writing and all hell broke loose on the television networks (is writing so important in today’s world? I thought only place they did that was in school). They couldn’t possibly air reruns all the time, could they? Even after my better half had gobbled up whatever was available on the net in the archives, she was still hungry. Then I was forced to do some more research. I now can claim that I am well educated about WGAW, WGAE. I learnt that some minimum wage agreement had expired impacting approximately 11000 people directly. I wanted to ask WGGP - Will God Give Peace. They need to come out of the strike now, since the IQ challenge has come to New Hampshire. It is nine weeks now and I want domestic bliss. Hopefully, in the interest of fairness, the WGA strike is resolved and domestic peace is restored.

The latest I read was that United Artists (co-owned by Tom Cruise) signed an independent agreement. Guess the Mission Impossible star has taken a small first step, but more positive things are in store. I am sure this is not his mission this time, but he sure is helping my cause.
